A Bangladeshi flag carrier vessel ‘MV Hope’ went missing in the early hours of Thursday when storm hit it near coastal area of Thailand.
The Royal Thai Navy rescued so far six Bangladeshi crews out of 17 while 11 others were still missing.
MV Hope, the ship in distress, was heading for Bangladesh’s port of Chittagong when it capsized 32 kilometers off Racha Noi island near Phuket. Due to strong winds and intensifying monsoons, up to 4 meter high waves have been generated near coastal areas in the South.
Chief Engineer of the Bangladesh Department of Shipping Fakharul Islam told media that the cargo vessel owned by Trade Bridge Shipping Ltd was heading to Chittagong port from Thailand loaded with ceramic products and raw materials.
The vessel ran into trouble in rough sea and tilted at about 40 degree, Fakhrul said.
The rescue operation is going on.
