You may be wondering what motivation would have to do with weight loss. If you consider the meaning of the word, it will be easier to understand how motivation and weight loss go hand-in-hand. Motivation is the feeling of enthusiasm or interest that makes a person want to do something. It is a reason for doing something.

Motivation is a Key Factor in our Lives

What motivates you to get up and go to work everyday? It is the interest you have in your job. If this is not your motivation, you are certainly going to consider the alternative. If you do not go to work, you will not have a paycheck at the end of the week. This means you will not have the essentials that are needed – food, shelter, a vehicle – therefore; you do have an incentive to go to work.

The same thing is true when it comes to losing weight. You must have motivation or an incentive if you are going to do the things needed to lose weight. What are some of the things you will experience if you are extremely overweight and do not lose these extra pounds?

  • You can develop health problems.
  • You are not able to do the things you enjoy.
  • You will not feel well most of the time or have enough energy.
  • Being overweight can affect your mental health as well.

Weight loss is not easy for many people. Even though they want desperately to lose weight, they may lack the motivation. Finding this motivation is the key to developing a weight loss program that is effective for each individual. We are all different and what motivates one person may not work for another.

Deciding what is important is going to be one way of finding motivation. Is your health important? Of course it is and seeing what excess weight can do to your health may be one way of providing motivation for some people. Research the different ways that weight affects health and you will see some frightening results.

Your heart is one of the major organs of the body. Excess weight can cause problems that are directly related to your heart. The extra stress that is put on the heart by excess weight is detrimental to health.

What about your career? Are there certain goals that you have for the future that involve your job? The attainment of these goals can be affected by your weight. Even though most people would say they do not think differently about people that are overweight, this is not true. Promotions and better jobs are part of this equation, especially if the jobs are in the public limelight.

Deciding what motivates you to do the things you do is going to be an essential part of losing weight. When you find your motivation, half the battle to weight loss has been won.
