Where Do Radicals Come From

Have you ever cut an apple and left it laying out for a short time? The two halves turned brown. Free radicals at work! This process is called oxidation.

Our body produces free radicals and they help in the metabolic process. The danger appears when the body produces too many. A free radical can destroy even a complete cell, not only an enzyme or protein molecule.

Where do free radicals come from?

Free radicals come from a variety of sources. They come from “normal” body metabolism, exercise, stress, sunlight, air and water pollution, and a variety of other sources : smoking, pesticides, pollution, airline travel, X-rays, chlorine in treated water, mercury in seafood and teeth filling and many more.

The Solution is Antioxidants

Antioxidants are our body’s defense against destructive free radicals, our defense against aging, sickness and disease.

For the two halves of the apple not to become brown, not to get oxidated, we put over, immediately after cutting the apple, lemon juice. Lemon juice contains a lot of vitamine C which is a very strong antioxidant.
